Ryanair jet abandons landing after air traffic controller debacle

A Ryanair jet from Britain with 300 passengers aboard had to abandon a landing after the air traffic controller failed to turn up.
Baffled crew got no response from Germany's Leipzig airport when they radioed for permission to land the Boeing 737-800 jet from London. So they made an emergency diversion to Berlin's Schoenefeld airport, where passengers were taken by coach to Dresden to catch a replacement flight.
German air traffic controllers blamed a "misunderstanding" over the rota which left the Leipzig control tower empty. A spokesman added: "There is an internal inquiry."


How many people were sitting on other peoples laps and how many occupied the lavatories? (=> Ryanair 737-800 have 189 seats)
