Quick question about name "aliases" on boarding card

Post by Jamie on Sat 12 Mar 2011 - 17:40

Hi all, friend of mine recently booked me a Ryanair ticket from Stanstead to Tampere Finland. My legal forename is James, which is written on my passport, however he has booked the flight under the name Jamie, which is what I am commonly known as.

Is this minor difference likely to cause problems when boarding etc?

Thanks for any advice.

If they want to be really pedantic it could but as long as your date of birth is correct I would imagine you'll get through security OK. There's no guarantees though as there's no way of knowing how security and the ryanair staff will handle it at the gate. Just be polite and smile!

Hey. I was passenger service agent at CCF airport, and i had this problem during a check in. I asked to the flight dispatcher if is possible to check in the passenger with his "alias" , he said no "I can't take the decision alone if there is a problem" . So we called Ryanair , in Dublin, who said to us to call Policemen to make a check . For the passenger it was his flight back. After the check the policement said yes and ryanair as well because it was his return flight. But BE CAREFUL... And if you want to change your name it's about 100€. sometimes it's cheaper to buy another ticket

Hi Jamie some great members here willing to help... Have a think about becoming a forum member this will open a few more threads for you to read.

Like the guys have said- some with the same problem get away with it and some may not.. it's all down to the staff on the day... unfortunately a 50/50 situation .. not a good place to be at... hope all turns out well in the end, be nice if you could update us.

Regards.
