cabin luggage

Post by lizandbrian on Fri 20 May 2011 - 17:20

We have flown with Ryanair several times with cabin baggage and only once been asked to put them in the test thingy they use to see if they are the right size. We only had to put them in in a top to bottom way but a friend has just come back from a Flybe flight and hers was ok top to bottom but she was then asked to fit it in another one to see if it fitted sideways (which it didnt because of the wheels). can anyone tell me if Ryanair measures them sideways as well as top to bottom of case.
sorry if this is a bit long winded but didnt know how else to describe it...................

one item of cabin baggage is permitted per passenger (excluding infants) weighing up to 10kg with maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm (your handbag, briefcase, laptop, shop purchases, camera etc. must be carried in your 1 permitted piece of cabin baggage).

I have flew many times with Ryanair and the only airport to measure my hand luggage sideways and any other way they can was at Brussels (Charleroi) they seems to be very strict but this method can be introduced anywhere at anytime so as long as your hand luggage meets the guidelines there should not be a problem.

Just arrived back from Arrecife(Lanzarote) staff at this airport are strict regarding hand luggage but todate have not used the sideway rule.
