Question about 'invalid' ID.

Post by daleano2 on Thu 18 Jul 2013 - 22:02

Hello folks!

My friends will fly to Palma (PMI) on 22nd July. One of them lost his ID months ago so he applied for a new one and got it about 2 months ago. Then he found his previously lost ID. They booked this flight to Palma and unfortunatlely the new ID has been stolen yesterday. As the plane takes off within days there's no time for obtaining another ID but he still has the old probably 'unvalid' ID. The unvailid one will expire by 2019, as a document it still looks perfectly ok, it's not cut or something. My question is can he use this old ID? Does airport may check it somehow?

There's no question about the 'old' passport. It's invalid! Assuming it's about a polish passport and a trip inside the Schengen region there's not much change that your friend will have to show his passport, except at the check-in/boarding procedures. Personally I don't expect that there and then the invalidity will be noticed. But imagine that for some reason an official inspection of the passport will be done, in Spain or on return in Poland. I expect your friend will be in much more trouble than being denied boarding. In my country (the Netherlands) there are procedures for a temporarily travel document on short notice. I think your friend should look for something like that.

Thanks for your reply bateryan!

He's going to use an ID (identity card) issued by Poland not a passport and will try to obtain a temporarily document tomorrow. It will be kind of a passport on short notice.
