Hi there - you say 'Stansted is the second most important Ryanair base (after Dublin) and there are always a lot of FR B737 around ...' but per Ruinair recently STN is a bigger base than DUB ......
page 13 below shows 40 planes with 97 routes from STN
and shows 22 planes with 84 routes from DUB?

I had not checked, and it might well be that STN has more based 737 and more routes than DUB.
I think the importance of Dublin lies in beeing the home base, home of the management (and of the best known and wordly famous Ryanair manager), and historically the place where FR was born.

I wonder how long it will stay this way, with this new crappy 10€ tax possibly coming up...
Screw the Irish government if they do that!

yes i will be paying the new €10 departure tax but i dont really mind since Ruinair's fares are so low! and what is €10 these days? it's the price of 2 beers or a train ticket or a few hours car parking .... Smile and the Irish economy needs all the money it can get these days.

Yes, but you can still be thirsty, take the train to the airport or park your car there, and the tax is on top - and if you come back from, say, Belgium or the Netherlands (and the other countries will probably follow the trend), you'll have to pay another 10 euros - that makes 20 ... when the ticket price is 20 or 30 euros, it's psychologically heavy, I think.

I've only just heard about this, which is probably too late, but thought I would mention it. I will check when the next fare rise happens in January if it still applies.

I cannot for the life of me remember the price Ryanair charge for a Stansted Express RETURN ticket on-board the plane. I ignore it, as I drive the Stansted Express and get free travel, but I KNOW it's much cheaper than buying at the airport or ESPECIALLY on the train!

IF you are only going into London for a day, I REPEAT JUST FOR A DAY! and after 0930, DO NOT ask for a RETURN to Liverpool Street. A return JUST on Stansted Express, bought at the ticket office costs £26.

If you ask for a "Cheap Day Return to Clapham Junction" you will only pay £21, which entitles you to go to Liverpool Street and return, it even gives you a return underground trip from Liverpool Street to Victoria, which on it's own is £4 in each direction.

I know it's not really Ryanair related, BUT, if anyone needs help on train travel from or to Stansted I would be very willing to help out.

Don't forget that the Terravision bus is only 10 minutes slower than the Stansted Express. But the bus is much cheaper. Tickets cost 14 pounds return. There's no need to prebook your tickets, as they are sold for the same price on board the plane and at the ticket counter at Stansted airport.

By the way a day pass with Stansted Express costed me 39 pounds yesterday!

Hi Brendan,

Best price i can find for your size of party on Stansted Express is £107.20 I'm afraid. This, sadly is due to the overnight stay, and it being during the working week, rather than a Saturday and Sunday, and that you require to be back at the airport BEFORE 9am. Off-peak cheaper fares start during the working week in the coming out of London direction at 9am.

As danieln, has mentioned Terravision advertises a 55 minute journey to Liverpool Street, average journey times on Stansted Express is around 45/46 minutes, the Terravision cost for your party, booked on their internet site, comes to £56, although there is a special internet rate for adults and not children so it says on their site., which could knock £3 of that fare.

From being local, travelling into London, just after 11am by road should be no problems whatsoever, and you would probably get there in the 55 minutes advertised. The same I would imagine for your return, as if your flight is at 9am, you would ideally be at the airport at about 7am and the M11 motorway would be fine before that time, it would only get busy about 7.30am and 9am, mainly in the london-bound direction mainly.

I'm sure someone on here might be able to say how much the cost of Stansted Express and Terravision tickets are on-board the flights. I'm sorry I tend to switch off when they make that announcement, as I catch a local bus from the airport back to my home.

I hope that information, may of been of use to you.

Steve

The Terravision tickets cost 14 pounds on board, online and at the ticket counter. The only advantage of booking online is that you save time.

Watch out! Terravision do not accept credit or debet cards at their counter, only cash. An ATM is just opposite the Terravision sales desk.

Stevestrac has just sent me this :
http://www.hertsandessexobserver.co.uk/hertsandessexobserver/displayarticle.asp?id=431977
Due to a change in magnetic field, the runway is thus now 04/22 (whilst remaining in the same place as when it was 05/23 Laughing )

The change involved quite a lot of work to change all the signage, and the huge numbers at both ends of the runway..

It's cheaper to use an Easyjet transfer to Central London.
